De-clutter! – Is your office a mess?
- Ensure your work desk at home has only the basic everyday needs on it: lighting, phone, your Day-timer and the item you are working on. Pending papers in your peripheral vision can take as much as 4% of your attention away from the current task.
- Use wall shelves for added storage and display; arrange things by frequency of use as well as appearance. We tend to organise the kitchen and the bathroom by frequency of use but then resort to the alphabet in most others places.
- If you have not used or touched items in one year consider giving them away, recycling or selling them as it is unlikely you are going to need them again.
It's a wrap! – do you struggle with gifts?
- Establish a year-round, portable gift wrap centre complete with tape, scissors, some multi-use papers, and a good variety of ribbons, bows and gift bags.
- Use one annual planner page for a complete record of birthdays and anniversaries; include it in a sweep of all “inboxes” in your planning time when planning the next month.
- Keep a “present’s page” in your Day-timer, so that when conversations with your family or friends highlight a heart felt desire from someone, you can record the idea on your “presents page” and surprise them with your insightful gift on the appropriate day.
